The Institute for Social Research is a research unit at the University of New Mexico. We conduct high quality research on a variety of issues and challenges at the local, state, national, and international levels. We use state-of-the-art but proven research strategies to collect and analyze information in order to produce reports, papers, monographs, and books. Our analyses are consistently accurate and insightful; reports are written in a crisp and clear manner. We understand how to work cooperatively with funding agencies to develop products tailored to meet their needs.

The critical issues we work on include crime, education, homeland security/terrorism, and health care. As a unit within the University's College of Arts and Sciences and an affiliate of the Sociology department, ISR is able to draw on a pool of graduate and undergraduate students to assist in its research projects. These research opportunities attract some of the University's best and brightest students, many of whom will go on to important professional careers.

A highly professional front office staff ensures that the business and accounting sides of all projects proceed smoothly and adhere to University, federal, and funding-agency guidelines. ISR's Principal Investigators all have a PhD, a law degree, or an MD . They are creative in their thinking, and bring critical insights and effective solutions to complex problems. The principal investigators are on the cutting edge of their academic disciplines; they publish widely.
