Lonna Atkeson, Ph.D.

Director, Institute for Social Research

Dr. Lonna Rae Atkeson is a Professor, Regents' Lecturer and Director of the Center for the Study of Voting, Elections and Democracy in the Political Science Department at the University of New Mexico. She is an internationally recognized expert in the area of election sciences, survey methodology, voting rights, election administration, public opinion, political behavior, campaigns, gender, and race and ethnicity and has written over 50 articles and book chapters, and dozens of technical reports, monographs, amicus curiae briefs and other work on these topics. She advocates for a data driven, applied social science, approach to public policy that encourages academics and practitioners to join together to exchange expertise to create an efficient, well managed, transparent, and a citizen focused public sector.

Kristine Denman

Director, New Mexico Statistical Analysis Center

Kristine Denman is the Director of the New Mexico Statistical Analysis Center. She has 20 years of experience in both research and evaluation. Prior to her recent promotion to Director of the SAC, she was the lead researcher on numerous projects for various agency partners at the city, state and federal levels. Besides her work with the SAC, she has partnered with the New Mexico Sentencing Commission on a number of projects. Her evaluation work has focused on criminal justice work as well as educational programs, often using a mixed-methods approach. Work on which she has been lead evaluator has been nationally recognized.

Linda Freeman

Executive Director, New Mexico Sentencing Commission

Ms. Freeman has 16 years of research experience. She has worked at the New Mexico Sentencing Commission and served as its Deputy Director from 2010 to 2016. Her research and evaluation has primarily focused on criminal justice and community issues in New Mexico.

Paul Guerin , Ph.D

Sr. Research Scientist III

Paul Guerin, Ph.D. is the Director of the Center for Applied Research and Analysis (CARA). He has worked at the ISR since 1992. He has also taught part-time in the Sociology Department at the University of New Mexico since 1988. His primary areas of teaching have been in criminology, corrections, and policing. His primary areas of research have included the criminal justice system, the evaluation of substance abuse and criminal justice programs, the evaluation of Science, Technology, and Math (STEM) programs and other education programs, and the study of DWI and alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes.

Tony Ortiz, J.D., is the Deputy Director of the New Mexico Sentencing Commission (NMSC). He has worked at the NMSC since 2004 and served as the director from 2009 to 2016.

Dan is a Senior Research Scientist at CARA with experience in the field of evaluation research, report writing, editing, and creating grant-in-aid applications. He came to ISR after a career in judicial administration. At ISR, he has managed a variety of projects locally and statewide, including uniform crime report (UCR) training, process and outcome evaluations, and legislative analysis.
