The Center for Educational Research
The Center for Education Research (CER) concentrates on longitudinal analysis of children's (preschool and K-12) careers in public education. It was formed to incorporate the work of Dr. Richard Boyle.
Boyle's mission is to track children who attended public child development programs in Albuquerque as they advance through Albuquerque Public Schools. Rebel Palm, M.A., has joined Dr. Boyle in maintaining this project. Together, they are developing and expanding its research potential. The CER longitudinal database has many potential uses. For example, it aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Early Reading First; an innovative program designed to promote reading readiness. This program is being implemented in a set of Albuquerque preschool classrooms. The plan for the future is expand the database in order to:
-
include more child development programs and school districts, both in and
outside of Albuquerque.
study programs implemented at any level of the educational system
(for children from birth to the time they exit the school system.)
CER is also working to develop partnerships with education researchers outside of ISR who would like to include the potential of the tracking database in their own work, and collaborate with ISR staff in the analysis and interpretation of findings.
